Inspired Learning Academy invites homeschoolers to join us on a drop in basis.
Anthropology through Film and Food
This offering will use film, food, and anthropological perspectives to examine different world cultures throughout time and space. We will specifically examine how cultures see themselves, in what ways cultures can be compared with one another, and how films can both positively and negatively portray a culture to outsiders.
We will try to integrate as many traditional cuisines into our classes as possible, with the possibility of going to restaurants, sourcing food from groceries, or foraging off the local landscape to get ingredients. We can also experiment with traditional methods of preparation of these foods, working with skilled cooks in the community or a cooking class within the school.
We will reserve part of each week for reflection and student input on how the class should be shaped.

Learn how to book travel experiences and about the cultured different countries around the world!
Based on class requests, we will select various countries to explore.
My vision for the class is that on Wednesdays we’ll spend time planning out logistics of taking a trip there and I’ll share planning tips along the way. For Fridays, we would take the time to explore different aspects of the countries such as popular places to visit, food, common phrases to know, currency, and culturally appropriate guidelines and expectations to follow while in that country. I also have ideas for gamifying the experience as well if that’s something we want to do as a class.
